Filipino-Canadian Community celebrates 50 Years in Winnipeg


WINNIPEG - The Philippine Heritage Council of Manitoba will officially mark 2009 as the Filipino-Canadian Community’s first 50 years in Winnipeg at an important media event tomorrow (Wednesday 26 May 2009) at the Philippine-Canadian Centre of Manitoba (737 Keewatin). The event will officially launch year-long public events and festivities taking place throughout the city. Highlights will include the unveiling of the celebration campaign by local artist, Symmone Ochoa; reading of the “Filipino Community celebrates 50 Years of being in Manitoba” Private Member Bill by MLA Kevin Lamoureux; and a synopsis of the Filipino-Canadian community in Winnipeg’s first 50 years by former MP Dr. Rey Pagtakhan.
